When Art Moves Into a Hotel

From paintings to a bathtub turned into a forest — Hotel Warszawa Art Fair proves that art can surprise in the most unexpected places.

What happens when contemporary art leaves the white walls of a gallery and takes over the interiors of a hotel? The answer is the Hotel Warszawa Art Fair — an annual event that transforms one of the city’s five-star hotels into a living exhibition space.

Now in its 4th edition, the fair brings together Polish and international galleries across two floors of carefully designed rooms and corridors. Walking through them feels less like visiting a fair and more like moving between different moods and scenes: painting, sculpture, performance — even a bathtub transformed into a miniature forest.

Instead of art standing apart from daily life, here it enters an intimate setting — a hotel room — where the everyday becomes a stage for discovery. It blurs the line between artwork, viewer, and environment.

Beyond the white cube

The concept is simple, yet striking. Instead of art standing apart from daily life, here it enters an intimate setting — a hotel room — where the everyday becomes a stage for discovery. It blurs the line between artwork, viewer, and environment.

That’s what makes this format special. While many fairs can overwhelm with scale, here the experience is more personal. It also connects to a history of art fairs in hotels, such as the Gramercy International Art Fair at New York’s Gramercy Hotel or the Felix Art Fair at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles.

A bathtub turned into a forest feels like a wow moment — and opens the mind to how the everyday can be experienced differently.

A note on why it matters

Events like the Hotel Warszawa Art Fair remind us that art doesn’t only belong in museums or grand halls. It can spill into the places we inhabit, changing how we see them. A bathtub turned into a forest feels like a wow moment — and opens the mind to how the everyday can be experienced differently.

It’s in these crossings — between luxury hotel suites and artistic imagination - that new ways of seeing open up. And perhaps that’s the true charm of this fair: not only the artworks, but the way they help us notice beauty where we don’t usually expect it. And, of course, it’s also a chance to explore the art world — and maybe even find the one piece you love.
